Hello.  My name is Preston

Let me introduce myself…

Born in Tampa, FL and raised in the Northern Virgina suburbs of Washington, D.C., I first moved to the Charleston area in 1995 to begin my studies at Charleston Southern University.  My dream was to be a high school band director.  After a couple of years, that dream faded and I fell into Economics.  During this period, I met and married my wife, Michell; and after graduation we moved to Tallahassee, FL so I could attend graduate school.

While in grad school, I discovered hotel revenue management and that became my career.  Work had us moving around a lot for a while, with stints in New Orleans, LA; Dallas, TX; Atlanta, GA and Orlando, FL.  In 2019 we opened our own business, a brewery, just in time for COVID to hit and change everything.  We hung on for a few years, before eventually having to close in 2023.  We relocated back to the area in 2024, buying a house in Summer’s Corner.  I still enjoy making beer, and occasionally you’ll find me hanging out in the driveway brewing up something new.

An avid reader of history, especially early American history; combined with my interests in labor and financial economics, I have always been interested in politics.  With the rapid growth our district has experienced, and the seeming lack of preparedness by the County to handle that growth, I decided now is the time.

Dorchester County has been controlled by a common group of councilmembers who continually seem to have more consideration for the large out-of-town developers than the residents who live here.  It’s time the people of this County took back control of their government and ensure we’re plotting a direction that improves the quality of life for all of us.  District 7 has been especially impacted by rampant growth, and all our schools have been woefully unprepared for the explosion of students.  With thousands of more homes already under construction, where is the plan to handle the increased student volume?  Roads are already strained to handle the traffic levels we have now; how are we preparing for thousands more cars?  A new fire station is finally under construction, what is the plan for other county services?

Working with my fellow District 7 residents, I want to make sure our needs are addressed and reflected in the County’s plan.  I want to ensure our residents have safe places to play and gather; ride their bikes and go for a run.  We should have sidewalks connecting neighborhoods to their schools.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little about me. Please support our campaign to make Dorchester County the place to live.
